Imagined by Alessandro Michele, and lensed by Glen Luchford, Gucci came through from another planet with this Star Trek inspired FW17 collection campaign video entitled ‘Gucci and Beyond’, giving viewers an out of this world experience.
Incited by 1950’s/60’s retro science-fiction (with the exceptions of the theme tune from the 1999 film ‘Space’, and the spaceship imaged in the video which appears to be from ‘Flight of the Navigator’ 1986), Gucci’s creative director did an insane (but genius) job of fusing such an elegantly fabricated collection with a theme as funky and innovatively other-worldly as this. Gucci x Star Wars? What a time to be alive.
Although the campaign has received quite a bit of critique across social media platforms and YouTube comments, many still acknowledge and appreciate the retro-futuristic creative content, with some even referring to Alessandro as the ‘new era’s John Galliano and Alexander McQueen’.
From the words of Gucci: “this season the collection is transported to a parallel universe where a mixed cast of humanoids, aliens, robots and earthlings unite for the Gucci invasion from a galaxy far, far away.”
